Pro Tools Workshop Mixing A Guitar Band
When it comes to mixing, a few simple tricks can go a long way to achieving professional-sounding results. Dan Livesey shows you how.
One of the most common tasks for the owner of a small recording setup such as Pro Tools LE is to record and mix for a band – let’s assume for the purposes of this workshop that we’ve got a guitar-based three-piece who need a reasonable mix of their latest masterpiece. Let’s also assume that the recording session was conducted in a fairly standard way: ambient and spot mics for the drum kit, several guitar parts with different amp settings and mic positions, a DI’ed and mic’ed bass and a dry, close-mic’ed vocal sound. A short excerpt from such a session is provided on the CD for you to work with.
