One of Reason’s great strengths is the ease with which you can start making music within minutes of installing it. In this respect it is more immediately accessible than any other sequencer. On the face of it, everything happens automatically: create a module and it is routed to a mixer channel. This is handy, but belies the fact that the rack system of Reason has more in common with applications such as Reaktor than Cubase or Pro Tools in the sense that every cable can be patched as you require. What you may not be aware of, though, is the power this organic routing system gives you to go beyond standard sounds and setups.
