If you’re making music on a computer, it’s easy to get carried away with synths and synthesis. Reason has some great ones and a lot of people use them to make all kinds of electronic music, but remember that the staple keyboard instruments of live bands from the 1960s until the 1980s are what we now refer to as ‘vintage’ keyboards. That includes the likes of Hammond Organs, Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzers, Clavinets, Mellotrons and more.
