Reason 4 Workshop - Making Soundbanks
Propellerhead supplies the ReFill Packer free to registered Reason users, so making your own soundbanks is a breeze. Hollin Jones shows you how it’s done.

Most recording musicians will have a collection of patches, samples and other files that they use regularly or that they want to share with others or even sell commercially. You can, of course, simply group this data into folders on your hard drive, but Reason’s proprietary ReFill format makes more interesting things possible. For example, did you know that ReFills can’t be opened by any software other than Reason? This makes them fairly secure if you’re intending to sell your sounds. Short of manually exporting every single patch or sample, no one can make copies of a ReFill’s contents. They can duplicate the whole thing, of course, but that’s a fact of life in the digital world and is also the case with applications, mp3s and so on.
