Amp and effects modelling has hugely expanded the sonic opportunities available to the project studio owner. Mike Hillier explains how guitarists can put this new technology to creative use.

Digital amp modelling provides today’s guitarist with a wealth of options that would otherwise be well beyond the budgets of most project studios. Guitarists are now able to experiment with a variety of amps and effects combinations in the search for their own signature tones without having to spend huge amounts of cash on their rig.
