Sampled impulse response (IR) files are steadily gaining a foothold in the music industry, cropping up in the form of sampled acoustic spaces, reverb units or signal processors (Focusrite’s Liquid Channel being a particularly interesting example of this). Despite being bundled with Logic Pro 6, Space Designer is every bit as powerful as Altiverb or IR-1, with the added benefit of offering one of the most creative ways of dealing with convolution processing. But with hundreds of IR files bundled with Space Designer, do you actually need to go to the trouble of creating your own?
