Sampling Masterclass
Whether you make your own samples or use commercial sample sets, sampling is a crucial part of modern music production.

To suggest that sampling technology revolutionised the world of music production and performance is not an overstatement. Early instruments such as the Mellotron were the forerunners of what would come to be known as samplers, but in reality they were actually very much more basic, using loops of tape with sounds recorded onto them that triggered when you played a note. Later, the Fairlight CMI would become the world’s first digital sampler, although it was hugely expensive.
