Sonar 8.5 Workshop - Beat-making part 1
Rhythm lies at the heart of almost all tracks. In the first instalment of a two-part Workshop, Hollin Jones gets busy making beats in Sonar 8.5.

Most types of music rely on rhythm to keep them going. Nowhere is this more evident than in pop and electronica, but beats are also at the heart of rock and other kinds of guitar music. For DAW-based producers, recording real drums tends to be something of a luxury since not only do you need access to a space to record in, you also need to be, or to know, a decent drummer. Using sampled beats gets around this but doesn’t always result in the most original music, as others may have access to the same samples. So, programming your own beats is a good way to make rhythms that are entirely your own and, in the process, make better-sounding tracks.
