Last month we looked at creating realistic-sounding drum tracks in Sonar. In this second installment, Hollin Jones looks at programming electronic dance beats.

Last month’s Workshop looked at how to program beats in Sonar using more conventional techniques, such as MIDI input from a keyboard, and focused on using traditional drum sounds. There is, however, another side to Sonar’s beat-creation abilities – one that involves more mechanical, electronic rhythms.
