The explosion of DVD into the domestic market has been nothing short of breathtaking. Manufacturers and press alike have trumpeted the claim that it’s the fastest-selling piece of domestic electronic equipment of all time. And with it has come an enormous amount of focus on surround sound. But what relevance does that have for music makers? Should we jump for joy at the spatial possibilities of mixing in 360 degrees, or just carry on in stereo and hope that it’s just another fad?
