With a wealth of DAWs now including synthesizer plug-ins as standard – not to mention a growing range of third-party instruments and dedicated hardware – there’s never been a better time to explore the process of creating your own synth sounds. However, it’s easy to be put off by the sometimes complicated interfaces, the barrage of LFOs, filters, modulators and so on, not to mention the creative difficulties of starting a patch from scratch. So, how do you begin creating a killer bass patch? How can you apply the various functions of the synth to create original sounds? Often, the quick (and easy) solution is to simply to turn to the preset folder, hoping that a pre-programmed patch will somehow meet your objectives…
