Like so many turning points in rock history, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell’s official entry into The Cure occurred in a beery haze. “A week into the tour, one drunken night, Robert Smith asked me to join the band and play on the next record. It was a good vibe. Every album was getting better and there was a distinct lack of effort about trying to be famous or successful.”
