The Posies - Dream All Day

Seattle popsters show the grunge set that loud guitars can be put to happier uses.

When the ban on long hair and loud guitars was rescinded in the early 90s, few producers added as many hip credentials to their resume as Don Fleming. Fleming had not only co-produced the debut of Courtney Love’s Hole project with Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon, but his work with Teenage Fanclub on their breakthrough Bandwagonesque LP won that band the top slot in Spin Magazine’s coveted year-end poll (where they beat upstarts Nirvana, no less). Those two projects alone were probably reason enough for Seattle pop hopefuls The Posies to seek him out. Principally steered by singer/songwriters John Auer and Ken Stringfellow, The Posies’ notoriety was partly based on their being something of an antidote to the flannel taint that had risen out of the out of the American Northwest.
