Once the punk movement came about, recordings made under the most alarmingly austere conditions were suddenly allowed. Low-budget studios spread like feral mushrooms on either side of the Atlantic, and it was into one of these humble spaces that the Soft Boys wandered in early 1980 to lay down one of the finest A-sides of the post-punk era.
