Getting down live drums takes a lot of time and patience. Apart from the time needed to set up lots of separate microphones, cables and stands, each signal you use must be carefully listened to and checked, and if necessary the microphones must be re-positioned before you even start. It’s quite common on big studio projects to dedicate days to recording just the drums. But don’t let this put you off, even the most modest studio setup is capable of recording a great-sounding drum track, even if you have only one or two microphones at your disposal.
