With powerful software studios now available for anyone’s desktop, it’s
hard to slate the traditional do-everything-DAW-plus-hardware
emulation- plug-ins system without sounding cheeky. Still, every new
piece of software that comes out which offers basically the same music
production system, but packaged in a slightly different way for a
slightly different price, can start to feel like just another brick in
the proverbial Wall. Yet, perhaps the only thing more rare than music
software that does things differently is music software that actually
does things differently in a useful and inspiring way. Now and then, a
plug-in, looping package or other music application shows up offering a
flashy yet confounding interface, and the revolution it promises turns
out to be more like a revolving door: in one moment and out the next.
