Using Devices In Ableton Live 5
Instruments, MIDI Effects and Audio Effects are all accessed as plug-ins from Live 5’s flexible and easy-to-use Device interface, as Martin Delaney explains...

Live’s ‘native’ plug-ins are divided into three categories: Instruments, MIDI Effects, and Audio Effects. There are three Instruments (as long as you paid for the Operator upgrade), six MIDI Effects, and 22 Audio Effects. Fou can use third-party Audio Units and VSTs with Live, but get familiar with the bundled items first. The Live Device interfaces follow the trusted Ableton principles – very functional, but with a touch of style; they’re all mappable via MIDI or the computer keyboard, and their presets can be accessed via the new improved Browser/Library.
