Using VST effects in Cubase SX and SL
VST effects are an established feature of Cubase. Here Hollin Jones looks at how they work in SX and SL and how they can help to add depth and interest to your tracks.
With the move to SX, Steinberg chose to stick with the VST format it developed for both plug-in effects and instruments. Other developers have developed their own formats: RTAS for Pro Tools, MAS for MOTU, DirectX for Windows and now Audio Units for OSX. All of these formats have their proponents, but VST has been the most popular. Despite this diversity, most developers tend to release their plug-ins for multiple platforms, so it’s usually possible to find what you need for your system.
