Capturing a retro feel is a trend that’s becoming increasingly popular – and there are many different ways of going about it. Hollin Jones goes back in time.

One of the consequences of recording with computers or other forms of hard diskbased machine is that the sound you capture tends to be very clean. In fact, apart from a tiny amount of colouration that may be introduced by the A/D converters in your audio interface, it’s pretty much exactly the same as the source.
