Virtual Bass
Bass is a crucial element of almost all music, but what if you’re not a bass player? Hollin Jones shows you how do virtually anything with software bass.

There’s nothing like hearing a piece of music with a really good, solid bass sound to it. This is explained by the fact that the bottom end of a track’s frequency range is where the majority of its energy comes from. To produce low sounds, speaker cones must move more air, and it’s the resulting vibrations that capture our attention and make the music sound ‘full’. Bass isn’t the be-all-and-end-all, of course – something that could be pointed out to those who install enormous sound systems in their cars and drive around blasting out bass so loud that it obscures everything and threatens the windows of passing buildings. Done properly, however, a solid bass sound can be the making of a track.
