Vista For Musicians
With the release of Microsoft’s new operating system comes a raft of issues pertinent to the recording musician. Hollin Jones lifts the lid on the new OS.

When one operating system runs the vast majority of the world’s computers, creating a major new version isn’t a task to be taken lightly. But after years in development and several well-publicised delays due largely to the problems associated with maintaining backwards compatibility, Microsoft Windows Vista is finally with us. As is often the case with operating systems, the new features that Microsoft is pushing hardest have, on the face of it, little to do with music or musicians – reading the promotional material you’ll be hard pressed to find anything that sheds light on the audio capabilities of Vista. But there is much that is newsworthy for musicians going on beneath the new Aero Glass interface, and there are some important things you should know about how Vista will impact on your music-making endeavours.
