Vocal Processing
A heavily processed vocal sound is one of the most distinctive elements of today’s releases. Ian Waugh discusses some of the treatments available, and we talk to top producers about what they’re currently doing with their vocals.
Vocal processing is the new Eden. Producers are taking advantage of the wealth of affordable hardware and software processing equipment to do to vocals what you wouldn’t to do to your drummer! You can apply any effect or processing function to a vocal track just as easily as you can to an instrumental track, but the result is likely to be more interesting and distinctive. Think of records that use extreme vocal techniques and you’ll see that they grab your attention far more than ordinary vocals.
