In the issue
Back in the 60s and 70s engineers and musicians were constantly pushing
the boundaries of sound, developing techniques that required more than
just a little skill and ingenuity, in this issue of MTM Huw Price takes
a look at what engineers were doing in the Psychedelic Studio and how
you can reproduce some of these techniques in your home or project
studio.Sonic experimentation is also a key factor in producing the sound of this month’s interviewee Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet. His new album Everything Ecstatic exchanges the folk instrumentation of 2003’s Rounds for a more lo-fi electronica sound, but like the 60s pioneers, Kieran gets the most from a limited setup.
Also in Issue 30 is the second part of Keith Gemmell’s Memorable Melodies feature, which this month explains how, with just a handful of musical techniques and devices, it’s possible to bring a tune to life. We also focus on Reason 3.0 to bring you Part 1of a feature on getting more from Reason. This time we have 80 tips and tricks for setting up and using the application.
Alongside all of this we’ve got Software Workshops covering the included plug-ins in Cubase SX/SL3, integrating Sonar 4 with Project5, and Logic Pro 7’s Guitar Amp Pro and two Ten Minute Masters which this month detail Audio Analysis and Mic Frequency Response.
Ableton’s new Live 5 audio production and performance suite is the talk of the town right now. We bring you the definitive review of the latest release of this revolutionary software as well as reviews of Focusrite’s Saffire interface with onboard DSP, Quested S8 monitors, FXpansion’s new Guru instrument, Roland’s V-Synth XT rack synth and many more.
