The 64-bit computing revolution is among us. While computer chip manufacturers have been banging on about their new 64-bit architectures for a while now, and Microsoft’s Windows XP64 ushered in the possibility of taking advantage of this architecture, the true 64-bit audio workstation hadn’t been forthcoming. Until now, that is. And in this month’s Music Tech Magazine, we bring you a review of the first ever sequencer with a truly 64-bit end-to-end signal path – Cakewalk Sonar 5 – tested on an entirely 64-bit Inta Audio PC music workstation. The future is here!

Creating the right sound to accompany an animation is a key part in defining the atmosphere of a film, and it’s even more critical in this particular genre. This month we have an extract from Robin Beauchamp’s book Designing Sound For Animation, which guides you through the process of preproduction for animation soundtracks.

Fresh from producing the new Franz Ferdinand album You Could Have It So Much Better, Rich Costey was in the mood to discuss some of the techniques used on the album, his love of Maestro Echoplex’s and Pete Cornish’s buffering amplifiers.

Also in this issue, we’ve got the final part of Mark Cousin’s Ultimate Guide To Compression, Ten Minute Masters on Modular Synthesis and Microphone Selection and Software Workshops on Cubase SX/SL3, Sonar 4 and Reason 3.0.

In addition to reviews of Sonar 5 and the Inta Audio 64-bit PC, we have an exclusive review of Tannoy’s Reveal 5A monitors, we’ve have taken an in depth look at Sibelius 4, Rob Papen’s latest synth – BLUE, the Røde NT6 microphone and many more.

The samples are supplied in both 24-bit/96kHz and 16-bit/44.1kHz, with patches for Reason’s NN-XT and NI’s Kontakt sampler.

Sony ACID Pro 5 Video Tutorials

The developers of Sony’s latest loop-based music production tool, ACID Pro 5, have created a set of training DVDs featuring step-by-step classes covering many of the new features, including the Media Manager and Groove Mapping. On the DVD you’ll find four movie files from the Seminar Series, covering chopping files, searching, groove cloning and a basic screenwalk.

All the latest demos
