There are only a handful of hardware audio devices that have achieved such a legendary status that they have become more highly regarded today than they were when they first appeared. Obvious examples would be the Neumann U47 microphone, Pultec equalizers, early Class-A Neve preamps and the Teletronix LA-2A levelling amplifier.
