When Ableton announced back in 2007 that it was collaborating on a project with Cycling ‘74, speculation was rife as to what the two companies were teaming together to create. Among the development community, Cycling ‘74 has a legendary reputation – Max/MSP/Jitter is an incredibly powerful graphical programming environment, but its appeal is arguably limited to academics, hackers, developers and a few ‘geeky’ musicians. Ableton Live, on the other hand, has much broader appeal. So, when the announcement came that the two companies were working on a version of Max/MSP/Jitter designed to work specifically with Ableton Live we were particularly excited. The two would combine all the power and flexibility of a graphical programming environment inside one of the most advanced DAWs.
