Audio Ease Altiverb 6
Altiverb 6 now comes in two different flavours, but does it retain the crown as the king of convolution reverbs? Mark Cousins explores a more spatial mix...

Back in 2001, an otherwise unknown company called Audio Ease released a plug-in for Digital Performer, creating a small ripple that would eventually lead to a big change in the way we use software reverb. At the time, convolution reverb was the preserve of high-end hardware effects processors, and well beyond the processing capabilities of even a top-spec studio computer. However, Audio Ease’s Altiverb demonstrated that real-time convolution processing could be a distinct reality, and despite a rather rudimentary set of controls alongside that fact that most computers struggled to run more than two instances, it went on to be a huge hit.
