In the fast-moving world of computing, there are a small number of powerhungry disciplines that are continually driving the pace of development. Among the most demanding are gaming, 3D graphics and audio production, and in these areas more than any other, demands are continually growing. Audio PCs are pushed particularly hard. Not only do they have to deal with all manner of physical inputs and outputs, but computer musicians will always want to run more tracks, plug-ins and ever-larger samples collections. The race has until now been about faster processors, but things are changing. Specifically, it’s about moving to a new system architecture – 64-bit.
