When it comes to amplification, guitarists are a notoriously picky bunch. Many won’t go near an amp that isn’t equipped with a full complement of vacuum tubes, but solid-state amps are often favoured by jazz musicians. And until recently, the mere idea of attempting to re-create a classic, revered tone through digital modelling was laughable. That was before AmpliTube, though, which accurately modelled some of the most popular amps ever made, including the Marshall JCM800 and Vox’s AC30. Guitarists began flocking to IK Multimedia’s amp simulator, and even big studios with equally big budgets began including it on their kit lists.
