Metal guitarists have been some of the most vocal critics of amp-emulation software ever since it started to become commonly used for project studio recordings. Essentially, the problem was that the various modelled amps and effects couldn’t provide the levels of gain guitarists required to compete with their analogue hardware rigs. While the software seemed to be very good at modelling the unique characters of a variety of vintage amplifiers, modern high-gain amps, commonly used by metal guitarists, weren’t so easy.
