Audio-Technica’s 40 series is the company’s high-end product range, promising ‘superior performance, unerring dependability and sonic consistency’. These are the microphones that AT makes for the professional market, and each one is individually tested and inspected. The series started with the introduction of the AT4033 in 1991 – a microphone that rapidly acquired the status of a general-purpose recording classic. Now the 4047 has joined the line, offering a fixed cardioid pattern and a transformer-coupled output.
