The 4080 and 4081 are the first ribbon mics to grace Audio-Technica’s lineup – and they’re both active designs. Huw Price checks them out.

The 4080 and 4081 are both active ribbon microphones with onboard preamplification. Obviously they slot into AT’s prestigious 40 Series mic range, with the ‘80’ and ‘81’ model designations giving a subtle hint as to their figure-8 pickup patterns.
