Compile a list of British audio legends and Malcolm Toft’s name would be right up there at the very top. After two years with CBS, he joined Trident Studios in 1968, working with T-Rex, David Bowie, Elton John, and Queen. He even mixed Hey Jude by the Beatles. In a scenario typical of the era, Trident realised that it needed bigger mixing desks to cope with 16-track recording, so Toft and his colleague Barry Porter were commissioned to build one.
