Although Antares can lay claim to having invented the term ‘auto-tuning’, the process and means by which it is achieved are no longer exclusive to Antares. In recent months, some big players have moved into Auto-Tune’s territory, with Waves’ excellent Tune plug-in (reviewed as part of the Waves Vocal Bundle in Issue 36) and Celemony’s Melodyne standing out as particularly credible competitors. Auto-Tune 5, however, attempts to reclaim Antares’ position as the king of pitch-fixing, but are the new features in this latest release enough to put clear water between it and the competition?
