When Antares released Auto-Tune back in 1997, it revolutionised the world of vocal processing. Love it or loathe it, there can be few engineers who haven’t turned to Auto-Tune’s supreme pitch-fixing abilities to remedy a sloppy vocal performance – even with the best of singers. Soon, studio recording had a new verb at its disposal (to Auto-Tune a vocal) and Cher had a Number 1 hit – the world of recording has never been the same since. Now, almost seven years after Auto-Tune, Antares prepares to take the next giant leap in vocal processing courtesy of the company’s AVOX Vocal Toolkit – a suite of plug-ins that promises unprecedented control over the sound of the human voice.
