Native Instruments Bandstand
GM plug-ins are few and far between, but NI’s new release looks set to raise the standard. Keith Gemmell is on the Bandstand.
Price: £150.00
Manufacturer: Native Instruments

General MIDI has been with us for 15 years now and shows no sign of disappearing in the immediate future. The reason it’s still alive and kicking, of course, is because it provides a minimum level of performance compatibility for MIDI instruments such as keyboards and sound modules. A professionally produced GM MIDI file will sound much the same when played back on any instrument that bears the GM logo. And because GM’s 128 voices cover just about everything needed for conventional composition, General MIDI has always been popular in the classroom.
Score: 9
