For all the benefits that computer-based music production and DAWs have brought to the recording process, some areas of studio operation remain stubbornly resistant to change. Soundcards, for the most part, are still unhelpfully confined to the rear of computers, making the (often limited) outputs a pain to access. Digital multi-track machines, especially the inexpensive ones, also frequently forsake the flexible monitoring found on larger consoles.
