Compression and gating/expansion are among some of the most useful studio tools an engineer can have, and they come in many different guises from many different manufacturers. However, for those new to recording, good compression (and, to some extent, expansion) can be somewhat difficult to set up, especially in the ‘finer’ areas of attack and release settings and multi-band operation. Addressing this issue, TC Electronic has developed the C300 stereo gate/compressor, clearly borrowing features from many of the company’s pro-end products – such as the Finalizer 96K – but packaging it as an easy-to-use, cost-effective solution.
