Buying a new computer can be a mixed blessing: on the one hand you get an up-to-date machine, with a virgin, virus-free hard drive, and on the other hand you can lose whole days installing software and testing various hardware. This task is then extended as you download the patches and updates that will apparently sort everything out with the stuff you installed the day before.
