Toontrack Custom & Vintage

Toontrack’s Custom & Vintage lavishes an astonishing 35GB of samples on the humble drum kit. Mark Cousins finds out if it’s space well used…

Price: £166.00
Manufacturer: Toontrack
Website: http://www.toontrack.com

Ever since sampling technology made its big leap from hardware to the software domain, the quality of sampled instruments seems to have risen at an almost exponential rate. Toontrack’s Custom & Vintage is a good case in point – with over 35GB of sampled data and its own unique sample playback engine, this drumming delight is years ahead of Toontrack’s original – and highly acclaimed – Drumkit From Hell samples CD. Custom & Vintage is actually based on the same software engine used in its DFH Superior, although this time the drums have all been recorded via a classic EMI TG desk to capture the essence of a ‘classic’ drum sound.

Score: 9
