Once upon a time, if you wanted to embark on hard disk recording with a desktop computer you soon discovered that Digidesign was the only name in town. These days, there are more interface options out there than you can shake a stick at. At the high end, Digidesign still holds its own as a major player; but look further down the food chain and you’ll find a plentiful supply of alternative interfaces – not to mention a few zeros off the retail price.
