Digidesign Pro Tools 6
The most eagerly awaited upgrade of the most powerful audio editing package has finally been released. Does Pro Tools make the transition to OSX with a bang or a whimper? Joe Green has booted into OS9 for the last time…

There would, it appears, be something of a trend emerging. With the introduction of the OSX optimised release of Logic Audio (version 6, reviewed on page 96) and – shortly – MOTU’s Digital Performer for OSX, the Macintosh operating system suddenly seems to be the best buddy of just about every audio software developer going. And now Digidesign joins the party, with the release of Pro Tools 6 LE and TDM – an upgrade that is less of a sea change in terms of functionality and more of a re-write that takes advantage of OSX’s glamorous interface and its advanced MIDI handling capabilities. Unlike Emagic however, Digidesign has no plans to ditch its Windows users with a version of Pro Tools version 6 for Windows XP coming later on this year (we anticipate early Summer).
Score: 8
