You have to admire a man who starts off his working life as a nuclear engineer before becoming a Grammy-nominated producer for the likes of Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder. Along the way, Roger Nichols maintained his interest in digital audio, inventing the concept of digital drum replacement using his own creation, the Wendel sampler, as long ago as 1979. His latest project sees the development of a suite of high-class plug-ins, including Frequal-izer and Uniquel-izer for equalization tasks, Dynam-izer and Finis for compression and limiting duties, and Inspector XL as the last word in plug-in audio analysis and metering.
