Tascam DP-008
Just over 30 years ago, the first four-track Portastudio made its appearance. Liam O’Mullane tests its latest descendant.

Tascam’s impact on home recording over the past three decades is well documented – and that experience has now been poured into the tiny Pocketstudio DP-008. But while it is undeniably small, the term ‘pocket’ may be a bit deceiving as the DP-008 is around the size of a VHS cassette tape, so fits in a small bag, not your trousers. But it is marketed as retaining the ease of use of previous multitrack recorders, so perhaps size wasn’t the only consideration dictating its design.
Score: 7
