Ever since the birth of digital sampling in the 80s, many engineers have sought to create the perfect ‘larger-than-life’ drum sound using the technique of drum replacement. The original technology used for drum replacement was crude to say the least by comparison to what we’re used to today, but despite all the advances in DAW-based production, dedicated drum replacement products appear somewhat under-represented, with only Drumagog and Digidesign’s SoundReplacer standing out as contemporary solutions for drum replacement.
