The Duende has proved itself to be an important next-generation product for SSL in just 18 months, taking the signal-processing code from a full-size SSL console and packing it inside a significantly more conveniently sized, project studio-orientated 1U rack unit. However, with a growing number of musicians relying increasingly on laptop-based systems – not to mention rival processing-acceleration solutions from the likes of UAD and TC Electronic – SSL has seen fit to deliver a more portable version of its Duende system.
