As improving hard disk and RAM technology enables sample library producers to create ever larger and more realistic sample instruments, casual users are being left behind by spiralling levels of control. Perfectionist producers may be in their element with colossal libraries such as Toontrack Music’s Superior instruments and FXpansion’s BFD libraries, but users hoping to produce a quick acoustic drum track for a demo have had to rely on much simpler technology, without the kind of expression these multi-sampled kits are capable of. With EZ Drummer, Toontrack has bucked that trend, releasing a drum sampler that features much of the technology used in the Superior instruments, but wrapped in an interface designed to be intuitive.
