Apple’s Final Cut Pro 4 non-linear video editing application is touted as having 300 new features. Perhaps the single most important of these for anyone keen to enter the professional video editing arena is the price. This has stayed the same, but the package now boasts a suite of software products including Cinema Tools (the telecine application previously only available separately at £829) and Soundtrack – a music composition tool with a 4GB library of royalty-free loops and sound effects that, as a standalone purchase, would set you back £250. If that isn’t enough there’s also LiveType, an amazing titling application featuring animated fonts, and Compressor, which provides MPEG II encoding for DVD. Still not happy? How about BIAS Peak Express 3.3 for detailed audio editing? The words ‘one-stop shop’ spring to mind…
