In the spring of 2001, M-Audio caused a stir when it added the Audiophile 2496 soundcard to the popular Delta range. Until then, musicians looking for high-quality audio at budget prices were restricted to the SoundBlaster Live, with its fixed sampling rate of 48kHz. Offering 96kHz sampling, simple connectivity and comprehensive signal routing, the 2496 soon became the best-selling pro-audio card of all time.
