Image Line Software FL Studio 6

Image-Line’s latest version of its popular FL Studio package offers devotees more than ever as it continues to encroach on the big DAWs’ domain. JoE Silva finds out what’s new.

Price: £75.00
Manufacturer: Image Line Software
Website: http://www.flstudio.com

There was a time when it seemed like a copy of Image-Line’s Fruityloops and a £120 soundcard was all you needed to rule the dance floors of the world – or at least that’s what the soundcard vendors of the day would have had you believe. But then again, were they really that far off? When Fruityloops debuted in 1998 it was little more than a MIDI pattern sequencer. It has since, however, morphed into a robust PC-based studio that enables you to do virtually everything the major DAW packages can – minus the cost and the seemingly impregnable interfaces. Audio recording, sampling, a healthy selection of plug-ins and a lifetime of free upgrades make this an almost irresistible package. And because FL Studio is available in one of four flavours (Express, Fruityloops, Producer or XXL Editions), even the mildly curious can dabble without breaking the bank.

Score: 8
